And just look at the medal tally from this just concluded 16th ASIAN GAMES, and you can explain to yourself how the Philippine contingent fared.
On my opinion its performance this year is far less good compared to the last 15th ASIAN GAMES held in Doha, Qatar in year 2005 wherein the Philippines has garnered 4gold medal haul.
Oh dear, how I missed the heyday of the Philippines in sporting events as this ASIAN GAMES during the 80's and the 90's when the names of Lydia De Vega, Elma Muros and Isidro Del Prado banners the Philippines into fame with their athletics performances.
Definitely, when this year's contingent return home and go back to their drawing board, the different NSA's or National Sports Associations will do finger-pointing on the reasons of poor sports performance.
Look at the tally, and you'll find facts that out of the 9-member countries (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Brunie) of the ASEAN region that competed in this ASIAN GAMES, the Philippines ranked only at 5th place. Just measely 1gold medal away from Myanmar.
How I wish, during this tenure of P-NOY's governance, he can produce in his period of administration some of the likes of Lydia De Vega, Elma Muros and Isidro Del Prado in the field of sports to compete in the world arena of athletics.
I strongly believe that combination of genuine patriotism, sports discipline, self-sacrifice, spiritual forebearance and government financial support program with grass-roots level training, the Philippines can again produce world class athletes and not just mediocre ones politicized by NSA's.
